Frequently Asked Questions
How long does an MRI take?
A standard MRI takes 30–60 minutes depending on the body part. Brain MRI is typically 30 minutes. Whole spine or abdomen MRI may take up to 60 minutes.
Is MRI safe?
MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves — no ionising radiation. It is safe for most patients. Inform us of any metal implants, pacemakers, or cochlear implants before your scan.
When will I receive my report?
Same-day reports are available for most scans. Complex cases reviewed by subspecialty radiologists may take up to 24 hours. Tele-consultation is available to discuss results.
Do I need a referral?
A referral from your doctor is recommended but not always required. Please call us to discuss your requirements and we will guide you appropriately.
Is contrast dye safe?
Contrast agents are generally safe. Inform us of any kidney disease, allergies, or diabetes before your scan. Our team will assess your suitability for contrast.
Can I eat before my scan?
This depends on the scan type. MRI and CT with contrast require 4-hour fasting. Plain X-ray and ultrasound (non-abdominal) require no fasting. We will advise when you book.
Is the wide-bore MRI as good as standard MRI?
Yes. The Siemens Magnetom C wide-bore MRI delivers full diagnostic quality imaging. It is specifically designed for patients who find standard MRI tunnels uncomfortable.
